Highfield Level 3 International Award in Emergency First Aid at Work

This qualification has been designed for individuals currently working, or preparing to work, in the industry. It is intended for those identified in the company’s first aid risk assessment as needing to provide first aid in the workplace. This international qualification is typically delivered through a 1-day training course lasting 6 hours.

Understanding the roles and responsibilities of a first aider including how to assess an incident, summoning appropriate assistance and prioritizing treatment. Minimizing the risk of infection by using good hand hygiene and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and the use of appropriate dressings. Conducting a scene survey to check for further danger, evaluating what happened, identifying the number of casualties and prioritizing treatment whilst delegating tasks.

Identifying when to and how to administer CPR, on an unresponsive casualty that’s not breathing (this will be tested on a dummy) and learning how to place a casualty into the recovery position. The monitoring checks that are required to be conducted including monitoring airway and breathing.

Additional areas covered are providing first aid to a casualty who is choking, a casualty with external bleeding, a casualty who is suffering from shock and how to provide first aid to a casualty with minor injuries.
